Bow Down to the First Trailer for Paul Thomas Anderson’s The Master

Joaquin Phoenix in The Master (2012) Movie Image

You don’t usually associate Paul Thomas Anderson films with wacky, but this first trailer for his latest, “The Master” sure is wacky. Then again, it could just be Joaquin Phoenix trying very hard not to kill the dude asking him the rather random sounding questions. Paul Thomas Anderson films are always worth a look, especially since the guy only does one movie every 4-5 years or so. The last time he came out with a movie was 2007′s “There Will be Blood”, and before that he went 5 years after 2002′s “Punch Drunk Love”. Then again, Paul Thomas Anderson is not for everyone, so I wouldn’t blame you if you find the prospect of seeing the first-ever trailer for “The Master” not nearly as thrilling as I do. He is, admittedly, something of an acquired taste.

A 1950s-set drama centered on the relationship between a charismatic intellectual known as “the Master” whose faith-based organization begins to catch on in America, and a young drifter who becomes his right-hand man.

Starring Amy Adams, Joaquin Phoenix, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Rami Malek, Laura Dern, Jesse Plemons, and Kevin J. O’Connor.

The master holds court October 12, 2012.
